PART 34 No one spoke. The empty glass chamber dominated the room. Its polished surface reflected Mariana’s face. Below it………

The engraved plaque gleamed beneath the soft white lights. GENERATION 13 MARIANA SANTOS Her own name. Already carved into stone. Already accepted as inevitable. Mariana slowly stepped toward the chamber. “No…” She whispered. “This isn’t my future.” Elias Ashcroft watched her quietly. “No.” “It is only the future they prepared for you.” Brooks stood between Mariana and the chamber. “No one is getting inside that thing.” Elias smiled. “I wouldn’t recommend it.” Linda frowned. “Then why is it here?” Elias folded his hands behind his back. “Because every generation eventually believed immortality was worth the price.”

He slowly looked around the enormous chamber. “Every one of them…” “…was wrong.” Thomas Greene slowly approached one of the glass capsules. Inside lay a woman dressed in clothing from the early twentieth century. Her face looked peaceful. As though she had fallen asleep only minutes ago. A brass plaque beneath the capsule read: SARAH LAWSON Guardian – Generation 8 Entered: 1919 Thomas’s breathing became uneven. “I met her.” Everyone turned. “What?” Thomas nodded. “When I was twelve.” “I thought she was ninety.” He slowly touched the glass. “She never aged.” Elias quietly answered. “Because she had already entered preservation.” Silence. Benjamin looked around the room. “So they’re all…” “Asleep?” Elias shook his head. “No.” “They’re waiting.” “For what?” Mariana asked. Elias looked directly into her eyes. “For humanity to earn another chance.” Susan frowned. “What does that even mean?”

Elias slowly walked toward the enormous world map hanging on the far wall. It wasn’t a political map. It showed twelve circles connected by intricate lines. Beneath them… Dozens of dates. Wars. Pandemics. Economic collapses. Every major disaster of the last two centuries had been carefully recorded. Mariana stared. “What is this?” Elias answered quietly. “The moments we interfered.” Richard Santos Colorado Mountains Richard listened through Benjamin’s radio. His expression darkened. “Elias…” The Founder lowered his head. “So.” “You found him.” Richard glared. “You knew he was alive.” The Founder nodded. “I’ve known since I was a child.” “Why didn’t you tell us?” The Founder smiled sadly. “Because he ordered me not to.” Benjamin looked at him. “You took orders from him?” The Founder laughed bitterly. “For forty-eight years.” Archive Zero Mariana couldn’t take her eyes off the map. She noticed small handwritten notes beneath several famous historical events. 1918 Influenza Containment successful. 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis Guardian intervention approved. 1989 Berlin Operation Unity.

2008 Financial Crisis Protocol Seven activated. Linda whispered, “These people…” “…were manipulating history.” Elias slowly nodded. “We prevented extinction.” Brooks folded his arms. “And who gave you that right?” For the first time… Elias hesitated. Then quietly answered, “No one.” Silence filled the underground hall. Mariana stepped forward. “So everything…” “My parents.” “Peter.” “Michael.” “The Founder.” “It was all because of this?” Elias nodded. “No.” He slowly pointed toward the empty chamber. “It was because someone refused to enter it.” Everyone looked toward the empty capsule. Mariana frowned. “Who?” Elias smiled faintly. “You.” “No.”

Mariana shook her head.

“I’ve never been here.”

Elias nodded.

“Not yet.”

Thomas suddenly understood.

His knees weakened.

“Oh God…”

Linda caught him.

“What?”

Thomas whispered,

“The journals.”

Everyone turned toward him.

“The journals weren’t histories.”

“They were…”

He looked toward Elias.

“They were predictions.”

Elias smiled.

“Finally.”

“Someone understands.”

Mariana looked around the room.

Every journal.

Every photograph.

Every family tree.

None had been written after the events occurred.

They had been written before.

Every generation had been following a script.

A carefully planned sequence of decisions.

Richard escaping.

Susan surviving.

Benjamin returning.

Even Mariana finding Archive Zero.

All of it…

Expected.

Brooks slammed his fist onto the table.

“So we’re just characters?”

Elias shook his head.

“No.”

“You always had choices.”

“But people…”

“…are surprisingly predictable.”

Mariana slowly walked toward the shelf labeled Generation Twelve.

She removed the final journal.

Its pages ended with today’s date.

The last sentence had already been written.

She read it aloud.

“Mariana rejects the chamber.”

She looked up.

“I already did.”

Elias smiled.

“Exactly.”

She turned the page.

Blank.

The first blank page in two hundred years.

Everyone noticed.

Thomas whispered,

“It ends.”

Elias nodded.

“The predictions end today.”

Mariana frowned.

“Why?”

Elias looked at the blank paper.

“Because for the first time…”

“…someone made a choice we couldn’t calculate.”

Before anyone could respond…

Every light inside the underground hall suddenly turned blue.

Not red.

Not white.

Blue.

A calm computer voice echoed through the chamber.

Unauthorized genetic profile detected.

Everyone froze.

Linda looked at the nearest monitor.

A DNA scan had activated automatically.

One name flashed repeatedly.

Not Mariana.

Not Benjamin.

Not Isabella.

Not Eden.

A completely different name.

The system continued scanning.

Then displayed a message that made Elias Ashcroft lose his calm for the first time in nearly two centuries.

FOUNDERS’ LINE VERIFIED

PRIMARY HEIR RETURNED

Elias whispered,

“No…”

Mariana looked at him.

“What?”

Slowly…

Very slowly…

Elias turned toward the entrance behind them.

Footsteps echoed across the ancient stone floor.

One…

Two…

Three…

A woman stepped into the light.

She appeared no older than thirty.

Long black hair.

Calm blue eyes.

Simple white coat.

Around her neck hung a silver compass.

She looked at Elias…

Then at Mariana…

And finally smiled.

“My apologies…”

“I believe…”

“…you’re all protecting the wrong heir.”

The computer chimed one final time.

Identity Confirmed.

EVELYN ASHCROFT

Generation Thirteen – Original Successor.

The underground hall fell into absolute silence.

PART 35 The underground hall became completely silent. Even the computer stopped speaking. No alarms. No mechanical sounds………..
