PART 38 Darkness. Complete darkness. The emergency lights failed. The monitors died. Even the computer voice fell silent…………

Only one sound remained. Footsteps. Slow. Measured. Approaching through the endless tunnels beneath Archive Zero. No one dared move. No one even reached for a flashlight. The darkness felt… Alive. Then… A warm golden light slowly appeared in the distance. Not electric. A lantern. Someone was carrying an old brass lantern through the tunnel. The figure walked without hurry. Without fear. As though the collapsing mountain meant nothing. Elias Ashcroft stood perfectly still. His hands trembled. His breathing became shallow. He whispered only one word. “No…” The lantern came closer. Its light illuminated an elderly woman. She appeared to be around seventy. Silver hair rested neatly beneath a wool shawl. She wore an ordinary cream-colored dress. Nothing about her looked extraordinary. Except her eyes. The moment Elias saw them…

The ring slipped from his trembling fingers. It struck the stone floor with a soft metallic sound. The woman smiled. The same smile Elias had described nearly two centuries earlier. Gentle. Warm. Completely without fear. “Hello, Elias.” His knees buckled. For nearly two hundred years… He had imagined this moment. He had rehearsed what he would say. How he would apologize. How he would explain. Instead… Only tears came. “Elizabeth…” His voice broke. “I buried you.” The woman slowly shook her head. “No.” “They buried your hope.” “They never buried me.” No one in the room spoke. Mariana quietly stepped backward. Every instinct told her she was witnessing something history itself had been waiting to see. Grace walked toward the woman. Without hesitation… She embraced her. “Mother.” The room froze. Benjamin stared. Thomas frowned. Susan whispered, “Mother?” Elizabeth gently kissed Grace’s forehead. “My brave girl.” She looked around the room. “I suppose introductions are overdue.” Elias slowly stood. His entire body still trembling. “You…” “…you’re Grace’s mother?” Elizabeth smiled. “No.” “I raised her.” “That is different.” Mariana stepped forward.

“Then who is her real mother?”

Elizabeth looked toward the far end of the library.

Where the darkness remained untouched by the lantern.

She answered quietly.

“The woman who refused to let the future be written.”

The shadows moved.

A second pair of footsteps echoed across the stone floor.

Then a third.

And a fourth.

One by one…

Figures emerged from the darkness.

Dr. Amelia Cross.

Alive.

Her coat covered in snow and ash.

Beside her…

Eden.

Dust covered her face.

But she smiled the moment she saw Benjamin.

“I told you I survived.”

Benjamin embraced her before she could take another step.

For the first time in decades…

The guilt he had carried since childhood began to disappear.

Then…

A third figure appeared.

A tall man with dark hair streaked with silver.

Richard Santos immediately recognized him.

His face drained of color.

“No…”

The man nodded politely.

“Hello, Richard.”

Richard whispered,

“Michael…”

Michael Caldwell.

Alive.

The man everyone believed had died decades earlier.

Brooks frowned.

“So nobody stays dead anymore?”

Michael gave a tired smile.

“I wish that were true.”

Finally…

One last figure emerged.

A woman.

Her face remained hidden beneath a dark hood.

She walked slowly.

Every person in the room instinctively stepped aside.

Even Elias.

Even Amelia.

Even Elizabeth.

No one spoke.

Grace smiled.

“She’s here.”

The hooded woman stopped directly in front of Mariana.

Neither of them moved.

Neither spoke.

For several long seconds…

They simply stared at one another.

Then…

The woman slowly removed her hood.

Mariana gasped.

She wasn’t looking at a stranger.

She was looking at herself.

Not identical like Isabella.

Not similar like Evelyn.

Exactly the same.

The same eyes.

The same scar beneath her chin.

The same birthmark behind her left ear.

Even the tiny crooked smile.

Susan staggered backward.

“No…”

Thomas whispered,

“This is impossible.”

The woman smiled gently.

“It should be.”

Mariana found her voice.

“Who are you?”

The woman answered without hesitation.

“My name…”

She paused.

Then smiled.

“…is Mariana.”

Silence.

Absolute silence.

Brooks shook his head.

“That’s not funny.”

The woman looked at him calmly.

“I wasn’t joking.”

Elias slowly closed his eyes.

“So…”

“It happened.”

Mariana frowned.

“What happened?”

Elizabeth quietly answered.

“The timeline finally collapsed.”

The underground library trembled violently.

Every journal flew open at once.

Thousands of pages turned by themselves.

Every prediction.

Every family tree.

Every recorded history.

Words began disappearing from the paper.

Ink faded before their eyes.

Generation One…

Gone.

Generation Two…

Gone.

Generation Three…

Gone.

One by one…

Nearly two centuries of recorded history vanished.

Only blank pages remained.

Linda watched in horror.

“The archive…”

“It’s erasing itself.”

Elias smiled peacefully.

“No.”

“It’s setting us free.”

The mysterious second Mariana reached into her coat.

She removed an old pocket watch.

Its hands had stopped moving long ago.

She handed it to Mariana.

“You’ll need this.”

Mariana opened the watch.

Inside…

Instead of a photograph…

A tiny folded map had been hidden beneath the glass.

She carefully unfolded it.

It showed only one destination.

Not Switzerland.

Not Archive Zero.

Not Avalon beneath Antarctica.

A place no one had ever seen referenced before.

At the center of the map…

Three words had been written in elegant handwriting.

THE FIRST MORNING

Benjamin frowned.

“What is that?”

The second Mariana looked at everyone gathered inside the library.

Then quietly answered.

“It’s where this story truly begins.”

She slowly looked toward the ceiling as another massive explosion shook the mountain.

Then she spoke the words that made even Elizabeth’s smile disappear.

“And we only have twenty-four hours left before the first sunrise never happens.”

PART 39 The mountain groaned. A thunderous crack echoed through the ancient tunnels beneath Archive Zero. Chunks of granite crashed onto the stone floor………
